April What?

I can not believe that it is April 18th already! This spring month has been pretty busy with church events, neighborhood fundraising events, spring break, and scrapbooking weekend. And this holiday weekend will be EXTREMELY busy with activities at church and home.  We also have GCRCT testing at school. AUGH!

MDS Pleated Ribbon Technique

Finding all the neat tricks that this My Digital Studio program can DO is HOT right now!  Also doing tutorials via blogs or video.  I found a program called CamStudio that allows me to do videos for MDS thru my PC.  So I went for it!  After about 2 takes to understand how it works, here is my very first video tutorial on the MDS website:VIDEO for adding-a-pleated-layered or you can see on You Tube below.

I saw someone do a bow on a card that just showed the loop and it hit me how to go further with it!  I was so excited to share this super cool tip with everyone on the MDS site.  I hope to do more videos that you will enjoy and learn more about MDS.

I created this card in real materials and then translated it into MDS a little differently. This is the long postcard.The layers were done with square punches, one in Crumb Cake and then another on top with dsp from Springtime Vintage pattern 4 at 34% opacity. I added a Very Vanilla straight stitch on the ribbon but not sure you can see it. The sstamped image is the florish from Bliss. Colors are Baha Breeze, Chocolate Chip and Crumb Cake(kraft).

It is rainy here and I am working on some scrapbooking thru MDS.  Exciting HYBRID pages to come! This has me really jazzed at the possiblities it offers!  I got 5 pages done in one hour!

MDS My Designer Paper as a Background Tutorial

 

Welcome back! 

Start with a 12x12 blank page.  Add whatever color background you would like. I used Not Quite Navy here.  Then you will add a square punch and enlarge to the size you wish to cover. Then you will fill that punch with DSP called Night and Day - pattern 7 for example.  

Now you want to change the opacity of the punch to 14% to lighten. The color behind will show thru the patterned paper punch.  Neat, huh?

Many colors of backgrounds look wonderful with this pattern 7 dsp.  Here is Old Olive. 

Then playing more with other Night and Day Patterns and colors.  Here is Rich Razzleberry with Night and Day - pattern 1 which is black on the thumbnail but when the opacity is changed it will become lighter.

So here is my finished page inspired by the two page layout in the Stampin Success magazine.  The layout also come from one sample they show.  Colors are Not Quite Navy, Pear Pizzazz, Going Gray and Basic Gray.

Just for fun, I changed the colors and picture and I have a different page. Colors are Baha Breeze, Not Quite Navy, Soft Suede and Crumb Cake (Kraft)

MDS My Overlay Tutorial

Inspiration comes from many places.  On the MDS website this morning, Holly with SU posted about photo backgrounds.  I love this layout style of one large photo with little embellishing the page.  I have done it before in Heather's MDS class and in my Disney 2010 album.  So I started with this super cute page of my niece and her doggie.  Changed the photo to black and white first.

More inspiration came. The other day when getting my SU package, they are putting this cute thank you from Shelli our SU CEO.  I loved the look of the Day of Graditude Medallion image on it.  So I began to add the medallion in Going Gray to the photo.  I continue until the whole photo was covered.  You can copy and paste it numerous times.  Now when you go to save it, you might get an error code pop up. I called Tech Support about it and Tanner said that it was because of so many images on one page.  He said that they were just warnings that you were over-loading the program. It does save eventually, just continue to click ok ok ok ok over and over. 

Once it was filled with the images, I took each image and changed the opacity to 4%-35% depending on how much I wanted it to show.  The center has 4% and the gradually gets up to 35% on the edges. Above you can see how it looks with no photo behind it.  (If you advance users do the grouping tip to copy and paste the medallion image by rows, be sure to ungroup it before changing opacity and saving to jpeg.)

I love the title! It is like Abigail saying this to her pup pup Maggie.

Love to see what you come up with in doing your own overlay!  The other medallions from Artistic Etchings and Baroque Motifs, florish from Friends 24-7 and Always Elegant would be amazing!

MDS My Own Designer Paper within a Punch Tutorial

First open up a card layout or even a 12x12 or 8.5x11.  Fill the background with color at 95% opacity.  Next add your top note punch or the area you want.  Next add the stamp images in the same color as the background but at 100% opacity.

Remove your top note punch.  Next save as a jpeg file.  Go to Share Project, then Export to JPEG. Now you will want to bring it up in your files, copy and paste it into the compontents of your MDS program example Components/BackgroundPapers/DSP.  I have added a file called PHOTOS in my background dsp papers so I place mine there.

Go back to MDS program and open new file.  Begin to create your card with background.  Add top note punch.  Fill with dsp in the file that you move your dsp to.  Be sure to unclick rotate image with punch box when you double click to adjust your paper within the punch.

Finally, finish your card. I really love this challenge of taking the real card and creating a MDS card.  I am learning how to do cards in MDS as well as find some new techniques for MDS.

MDS Watercoloring - next level

Patty Bennett (yes the amazing Patty Bennett known here: pattys_stamping_spot) recently was inspired by little me for the watercoloring technique that I showed on MDS website and here on my blog.  Flowers are her thing and I know this cause I follow her blog.  But she took the watercoloring to a new level of depth and artistic expression.  So of course that in turn inspired me to do the same.  I went back to the original page and added more hints of color to the reds and greens. 

I have been thinking about this for days....so after I did this new step, I went for it.  I saved the image in a jpeg file.  Then I added square photo boxes int the page.  Double click on the box to bring up the photos file and searched for my saved jpeg.  I added the background in black with Overlays Texture in Old Olive.  The "plant" is from Just Believe brush set.  I added one more and flipped it so that I could make the stems longer and run off the page.  The words are from For all you Do brush set and Calendar basics brush set.

I sent this to my mom via email the other day to cheer her up.
